CITY OF MALOLOS- In an aim to avoid the spreading of common diseases this rainy season, the Provincial Government of Bulacan (PGB) through its Provincial Health Office-Public Health (PHO-PH) alerts Bulakenyos to be cautious on getting waterborne diseases, influenza, leptospirosis and dengue.

Commonly known as W.I.L.D diseases, these sicknesses are frequently acquired through dirty environment, improper hygiene, weak immune system and improper preparation of food.

Governor Daniel R. Fernando believed that information dissemination is a crucial step to heighten the knowledge of the Bulakenyos so that they can avoid being sick this flooding season.

“Batid ko ang hamon sa ating kalusugan ng pagbaha na kadalasang umaatake sa ating lalawigan, tila tuwing tag-ulan na lamang ay kinakaharap natin ang mga ganitong uri ng pangyayari kaya naman ang magagawa ng bawat isa sa atin ay alamin ang mga paghahanda na dapat nating gawin sapagkat alam naman natin na prevention is better than cure,” the governor said.

In line with this, Bulakenyos are advised to practice proper hand washing; avoid wading on flood waters or if it can not be avoided, wear boots for protection and drink Doxycycline that are available on the nearest health center; be careful when preparing foods and drinks; consult a doctor or physician right away once any of the symptoms of the said diseases occurs; build a strong immune system through having a healthy lifestyle, eating healthy foods, having enough sleep, and drinking of eight to 12 glasses of water every day.

For more information, visit the nearest rural health unit or the PHO-PH located at the Bulacan Medical Center or contact them through their telephone number (044) 791-8169 or e-mail them at phopublichealth.bulacan@gmail.com.
