CITY OF MALOLOS – The Damayang Filipino Movement, Inc., formerly known as ‘Dugong Filipino: Dugong Alay ng Bulakenyo,’ founded since 2008 by Governor Daniel R. Fernando, in partnership with the Department of Health Region 3 and Provincial Government of Bulacan through its Provincial Health Office-Public Health conducted the bloodletting activity that aims to provide support to Bulakenyos who are in dire need of blood as part of the National Blood Donor’s Month Observation 2019 after over 789 potential donors voluntarily participated at the Bulacan Capitol Gymnasium in this city last July 26.

A total of 210 blood bags weighing 450 ml. each were collected from the blood donors during the program consisting of students, teachers, PGB employees, and others that will be donated to the Bulacan Provincial Blood Center.

According to PHO, blood donors also benefited in the program since before giving blood, a free health check-up that measured the temperature, pulse, blood pressure, hemoglobin levels and also was done, also, donating blood reduces the risk of heart disease and cancer.

During the bloodletting, DFMI founder Fernando personally thanked the donors for supporting the bloodletting and encouraged everyone to continually save lives by means of donating blood.

Vice Gov. Wilhemino M. Sy-Alvarado also likened the significance of bloodletting to the heroic deeds of the great Filipino ancestors.

According to the Philippine Red Cross-Bulacan, a bag of blood can help up to three to four individuals and benefit patients suffering from severe blood loss, mothers giving birth with complications, leukemia, major trauma, transplant, and hemophilia patients, among others.

Meanwhile, Cyril Ignacio, a first-time blood donor shared her experience after donating blood and encouraged other Bulakenyos to support bloodletting activities.

For interested blood donors, kindly visit blood service facilities of local government units/non-governmental organizations including Philippine Blood Center, DOH Hospitals, and PRC.
