CITY OF MALOLOS – The Provincial Government of Bulacan distributed seven 4x4 shallow tube wells (STW) to some vegetable growers during the flag ceremony in front of the Capitol Building, Monday morning.

Gov. Wilhelmino M. Sy Alvarado led the distribution of STWs which were awarded, as part of the assistance to mitigate the adverse effects of El Niño to farmers, says Gloria Carillo, head of Provincial Agriculture Office (PAO).

Recipients include Romeo Ramos of Pandi, Francisco Castro of Pulilan, Jaime Borja of Norzagaray, Servillano Rivera, Francisco Antonio and Louie Mendoza of San Ildefonso, and Edgardo Ibarte of San Miguel.

Mr. Romeo Ramos, chairman of Pandi Vegetable Grower’s Association said the awarded shallow tube well will aid in providing better irrigation and somehow, compensate for the agri loss they encountered.

“Ito talaga ay kailangang-kailangan namin lalo na sa panahon ngayon na kahit umuulan ay dama pa rin yung epekto ng nakaraang El Niño. Sa pamamagitan na rin ng mga seminar na ginagawa sa amin ng PAO, napag-uusapan kung ano yung nararapat sa amin, mga kailangan namin at isa na nga ito doon, ” Ramos said.

Carillo said, apart from this, the Provincial Government also has distributed dug wells primarily in San Ildefonso.

Based on the report of PAO, of the 82 hectares and 675 sq.m of land damaged all over the province, about 917 vegetable farmers had been affected by the said phenomenon. The estimated product loss was pegged at 801, 300 kgs. or equivalent to of P 16.5 million. ###
