Sec Tugade discusses North-South Commuter Railway with Bulacan top local officials

CITY OF MALOLOS- Department of Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade met with Bulacan top officials headed by Governor Daniel R. Fernando and Vice Gov. Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado
and discussed the updates and status of the North-South Commuter Railway from Malolos to Tutuban.

In a meeting held at the VIP Lounge in the Capitol building here, Sec. Tugade said that the construction of the Phase 1 of the project is two months advance of its target date and 11 companies including international firms showed interest to participate in the bidding for the second phase of the project.

The transportation secretary also requested for assistance from the Local Government Units regarding the processing of building permits, processing of permits of Affected Utility Providers, and permit to enter, where LGU chief executives have affirmed to assist.

Meanwhile, for the part of the Provincial Government of Bulacan, Fernando voiced out his suggestion of building underpasses instead of footbridges that according to him is more accessible for senior citizens and Persons with Disabilities, which Sec. Tugade said will be put into consideration.

Also, Calumpit Mayor Jessie De Jesus raised his concern for the relocation of the Calumpiteños who will be affected by the construction of a station in his town.

“Nakipagpulong na kami sa NHA. Mayroon ng identified na lugar kung saan sila ililipat at may component po iyan ng social commitment,” Tugade said.

Likewise, City of Meycauayan Mayor Linabelle Ruth Villarica and City of Malolos Mayor Gilbert Gatchalian uttered their interests to include the “touch” of their respective cities to the design of the station in their area.

Other local officials present on the meeting were Guiguinto Mayor Ambrosio Cruz, Balagtas Mayor Eladio Gonzales, Jr., Angat Mayor Leonardo De Leon, Representative Sherwin Tugna, husband of Bocaue Mayor Joni Villanueva and Bocaue Councilor Coro Juan.

The NSCR Malolos to Tutuban is projected to have a daily ridership of 255,200 on its initial year in 2022.
